A World of Possibilities: Childrens Book Release Coming October 9

Ever since having our child, Caleb, (almost) a couple of years ago, I’ve wanted to write a children’s book about something adults often ask young people: What do you want to do when you grow up? I’ve wondered if that’s really a good question to ask kids, as it could be seen as attempting to pull them into the world of adults before any child should ever have to. But it can also be a good question, if it can be focused in a way that is kept present and connected with community.

That’s the story I’ve set out to write in publishing my first ever children’s book. Here’s the description:

Anna is five, and everyone wants to know what she will be when she grows up. She does not know; there are too many things she would LOVE. So her grandfather walks her through town to ask bakers, shopkeepers, cooks, and storytellers why they do what they do. Their answers are not job titles. They are lessons in curiosity, wonder, and appreciation. By sunset Anna learns the wisest thing a child can learn: she does not have to choose just one path. She gets to grow into a whole world of possibilities.
